A coalition of key food industry stakeholder groups and consumer protection organizations has written a letter urging Congress to reject two bills that would undermine the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) FSMA 204, also known as the Food Traceability Final Rule.

In a letter addressed to key U.S. congressional leaders, the Safe Food Coalition (SFC) expressed its opposition to the DIRECT Act, the PRIME Act, and the New Markets Act, which would lift prohibitions on the interstate sale of meat and poultry from state inspected facilities and allow commercial sales from uninspected “custom” slaughter facilities.

The Consumer Brands Association (CBA), Safe Food Coalition, and Association for Food and Drug Officials (AFDO) have written a letter to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) expressing support for FDA's compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act's (FSMA's) inspection frequency mandates.
